Since July 2001, GlobalValue, owned for 50% by IBM and 50% by
FIAT, is a leading IT company located in Turin - Italy, its
main customers being the various companies of the FIAT Group,
as well as an increasing number of leading brands in the Open
Market. GlobalValue is one of the most important Italian companies
for eXtended ERP, and also leader in infrastructure management,
application management and in the evolution to e-business.
GlobalValue consists of 3100 employees with a revenue of more than
700 million Euro. The SigiWeb project is an Extranet project connecting
the various Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Lancia dealers together with the
headquarters in Turin. For the Chinese market, SigiWeb had to be
translated into Chinese (Chinese Traditional). After comparative surveys
and successful proofs of concept, GlobalValue has decided in March 2002
that WizTom for the Web was the best solution to speed-up and externalize
the localization of Sigi into Chinese. Due to the success of WizTom,
GlobalValue decided in June to extend the use also for the Japanese language.
The SigiWeb project is developed and maintained centrally in Turin, but
deployed in original language to servers in China and Japan. There, WizTom
for the Web (Proxy Servers) take care of the translation into Chinese and
Japanese. Translations themselves are entered by Chinese and Japanese
translators on site, which relieves the developement teams in Italy.
Daniele Catalfamo, project leader, declared: "The fact that we do not need to
duplicate our project and support the various Asiatic languages in our ASP
and VBscript based application has already saved us enormous amounts of time
compared with the traditional methods."
